The Model 557 dates from the late 1950s to the early 1960s and belongs to the early Seiko Solar series, which was known for its slim design and precise hand wound movements. The case is coated with a high quality 20 micron gold plating (EGP 20 microns) , which indicates a significantly more durable gold layer than the later common 10 micron cases.
